Assigning your work
Assigning your work is the most important thing you can do in Clockk. Assigning time is what builds the visualization of your day. When using Clockk, you should expect to spend about 5 minutes each day assigning your time and locking in your day.
The 3 kinds of “assign”
There are 3 kinds of “assign”:
- Assign always — Assign always sets up a permanent relationship between a work item and a project. Once an assign-always relationship is set up, Clockk will automatically assign any future time you spend on that document/app/website to that project. This is Clockk at its most powerful. Assign always works best when Clockk has special support for the app you used. Some supported apps include Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Teams, etc. You can see a complete list of supported apps and supported web apps. Hint: If you’re a web developer, designer, or SEO expert, you’ll want to assign-always the client sites you’re working on. Your timesheets couldn’t be easier!
- Assign once — Just this one time, assign the time on this work item to a project. You’ll want to use this with emails, Chat GPT, Zoom calls, etc. Basically whenever Clockk can’t reliably tell what document you’re working on.
- Team assign — Team assign is a super-powered Assign always. Use this to assign a work item to a project... but not just for you. For your entire team.
About “Unassigned time”
Not everything in your timeline needs to be assigned. In fact, it’s normal to leave a bunch of work unassigned because not everything you do belongs to a project. Some examples include:
- Watching a YouTube video on your break.
- Non-billable research and learning.
- The time spent in your email inbox or Finder/Windows explorer that doesn’t belong to any particular client.
Clockk can keep track of your unassigned time as well as your assigned (project) time. You might want to use this feature to track time under the EU Working Time Directive, or just to know how long you spent in front of your screen on a particular day.
